Is There Any Effective Treatment for People with Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD)

We all know PKD is characterized by the persistence of multiple cysts and it is very these cysts do harms to our kidneys. The cysts are full of fluid which is secreted constantly by the epithelial cells growing in cyst wall and because of which, people with PKD usually have enlarged kidneys. Because of the ceaseless generation of cyst fluid, cysts become bigger and bigger, and cause oppression to the surrounding renal tissues therewith. Long-term oppression to the renal tissues stops blood flow from reaching every part of our kidneys and this condition is called renal ischemia in clinic. Renal functional cells which can not get enough nutrient substances from the blood lose their life gradually, thus to weaken renal function.
Therefore, to avoid impair our renal function, preventing the generation of cyst fluid and then reabsorbing existing cyst fluid is of great importance. As we have mentioned just now that cyst fluid is secreted by epithelial cells, so by restraining the activity of these cells with effective treatment, we can get the generation of cyst fluid decreased and in this light, enlargement of cysts are brought under control in some way. Moreover, as to the existing cyst fluid, through the treatment, permeability of cyst wall can be enhanced effectively which will promote the leakage of cyst fluid and thus to achieve the purpose of shrinking cysts.
