How to Prevent PKD from Deteriorating into Kidney Failure

1. Find the disease as early as possible.
If one has PKD, there are much possibility that other family members having this disease, because PKD is a kind of genetic disease. If one of the parents has PKD, the possibility of heredity for their child is 50%, and if both of the parents have PKD, the possibility of heredity is 70% with which the next generation will get the same disease. Therefore, when there is somebody being detected with the disease, other family members should have a check as soon as possible. The other way is to have the DNA test for the fetus.
2. Treatment for complications.
Hypertension, urinary infection, rupture of cysts are all the common complications of PKD, and they are also the inducing agents for the aggravation of kidney lesions, so prevention and treatment should be provided timely. Medicines with nephrotoxicity should be avoided, and when there are abnormal manifestations such as long-term hematuria, serious low back pain and abdominal pain, the patients should go to hospital in time in case of delaying the best chance for treatment and the deterioration into kidney failure.
3. Nursing at home.
Since PKD and kidney failure are chronic diseases, they are easily influenced by fluctuation of emotion, overstrain, unhealthy diet and trauma, etc. Therefore, Patients with PKD especially when they are in the stage of kidney failure, they need to cooperate with the treatment at home in many aspects, including the nursing, diet as well as the emotion.
